City, firefighters meet to discuss staffing
The union representing Miramichi firefighters says they have had productive talks with the city regarding staffing levels.
Several weeks ago, the union renewed its calls for the city to deal with what it says low staffing levels within the department.
They have used several social media posts to call out the city and demand action.
The union now says they met last week with city management, Mayor Adam Lordon and councillors Ryan Somers and Tony Walsh.
The union said the city told them they were working on the statistics to determine the level of staffing they wish to provide and that they are committed to advancing the department to suit Miramichi's needs.
In response, the mayor also used social media to say it was a very good meeting and that the city is continuing to address ongoing issues and to improve department operations.
