Renous prison first in line for new needle exhcange program
Inmates at the Atlantic Institution in Renous will be among the first to take part in a new needle exchange program being put in place by the Correctional Service of Canada.
The organization says it is implementing the program in a effort to address infectious diseases in federal prisons.
HIV rates are 200 times higher in prison than among the general public, while hepatitis C rates are 260 times higher.
Phase 1 of the program will begin next month in Renous and at a women's facility in Kitchener, Ontario.
